Krav Maga vs. Martial Arts | At Krav Maga We Think Differently

Krav Maga is a form of self defense that is based on our instinctive movement. It was initially developed for the Israeli Defense Forces by Imi Lichtenfeld, and now it is being taught for civilian and police use as well.

But What is The Difference Between Krav Maga and Other Martial Arts?

Traditional martial arts include: Karate, aikido, taekwondo etc; whereas the modern martial arts include: boxing, muay thai, Krav Maga, MMA, and more.

The main difference between traditional and modern martial arts is the way of thinking behind the systems.

Traditional martial arts focus on the type of defense that would be the best defense, and the best reaction we should use against specific attacks. This reaction is the one that would be trained over and over, so as to regulate the body to react in that way by repetition. After years of training one can master those reactions and make it a second nature.

Krav Maga on the other hand, is the exact opposite in the way of thinking. Krav Maga focuses on our natural and instinctive reactions that we already have when under stress. The defense is built around these types of reactions (and not the other way around). Since this system of martial arts uses our already instinctive natural movements, it means it is easy for us to react that way to begin with (as we would react this way regardless of whether we want to or not). This is why only within a few sessions of training, you would increase your chance of defending yourself since you would already know what to do under stress.

Krav Maga focuses on real life situations too and it is an adaptive system meaning it changes as the attacks change.

Why you should try Krav Maga?

Through our Krav Maga classes you will not only discover the world of self defense, but you will also get fit. So we would like to encourage you to participate in any physical activity. Whether it is martial arts or not, getting out there and moving your body is so important. Especially nowadays when most people sit in offices in front of a computer, acquiring bad posture and not being active enough. The most important aspect of participating in a physical activity is that you enjoy it, otherwise it would become a chore and you will not persist with it. So go out there, and find that physical activity that is the most fun for you.
